Covid-19 positive cases rise to 682 in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, July 20 - Altogether 63 new Covid-19 positive cases were detected today till this afternoon, putting the tally to 682 in the district.

The highest number of positive cases has been reported from CRPF camp, NEEPCO with 22 cases altogether. The other positive cases were reported from Gangapara (14), Shantipara (6) and Jhalukpara (7). Untill yesterday, when the total number of Covid-19 positive cases stood at 619, the total number of discharged cases was 205.

Meanwhile, the district administration here is going to increase swab testing in the town by establishing at least 11 testing centres in different wards of the town. Initially Rapid Antigen test will be conducted and results will be given within half an hour for the positive cases. But the people, who test negative, will be tested again through RTPCR, the result of which could take some time. This was disclosed by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma during his visit to the district here Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner here has been entrusted with the task of arranging Covid Care Centre with a capacity to treat 1000 Covid -19 patients. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma during his visit had said that the district may require at least 1000 beds for Covid patients in the coming days. He said that the responsibility to arrange 1000 capacity Covid Care Centre has been given to the DC. The minister also instructed the AMCH authority to prepare a separate building with a 150 capacity bed with surgery facility apart from the existing COVID treatment facility.

The Health Minister during his visit held a review meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Principal of Assam Medical College, Joint Director of Health Services, ICMR officials and other officials involved with Covid-19 containment measures in the district.
