SHILLONG, April 7: With COVID-19 cases rising, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner I Laloo today issued a fresh advisory for markets and said that wearing of face masks is mandatory. Violators will be penalised, the advisory warned.

Laloo said: “Masks should be worn at all times. Anyone without a mask is liable to be fined.” She further said urged the public to maintain distance. Laloo also said that people should wash their hands or use hand sanitizers.

“The number of customers inside a shop should be kept at a minimum,” the DC said, adding that COVID-19 cases have increased across the country. In order to prevent spread of the infection, the public should follow the protocols strictly, she added.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Services Aman War said that there have been no reports of people being infected with the new strain of COVID-19 in the State. He said most of the new cases detected in the State have been asymptomatic and reported among those people who arrived from other States.

War said that the Health Department has issued an advisory on three ‘w’s’ – wear masks, wash hands and watch your distance. He added that a daily review meeting would be held soon to monitor the situation.

“There is nothing to panic. People know about the virus now and the only thing is that they have to be sincere in following the protocols,” War said.
