Court summons Bikash Baruah

GUWAHATI, May 22 � The Court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (I), Kamrup (Guwahati), has directed charge-sheeted Assam Cricket Association secretary Bikash Baruah to appear in person on May 30, a recent court order stated.

Baruah has been charge-sheeted by the Assam Police in connection with a case relating to publication of a morphed photograph that showed Kolkata Knight Riders� owner Shahrukh Khan sharing the dais with him and popular actress Deepika Padukone.

The ACA secretary has been booked under Section 420/419 of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.

Although the photograph got published in a number of leading newspapers, later it was discovered that the photograph was a morphed one.

The photograph was allegedly distributed by Baruah himself during an informal interaction with a select group of sports journalists in a city hotel here.

Even the Forensic Science Laboratory, Guwahati, in its report, stated that the photographed was doctored.

An FIR (case number 98/2014) was lodged by Prabhat Chandra Sarma, member, Freelance Journalists� association Assam with Latasil police station on April 29, 2013.

During the course of the investigation, 14 witnesses were examined and the chargesheet bearing number 44 was filed against Baruah on November 30, 2013.
