Couple finds names missing from voter list

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 24 - An Assamese couple of Jayanagar in the city, Jadav Chandra Sarma and Chandrama Devi, had cut short their visit to the US in order to be able to exercise their voting rights on Tuesday, but to their utter surprise and frustration, they found that their names had been struck off from the electoral roll.

The electoral officer concerned nonchalantly informed us that on the basis of information of the people of their locality it was presumed that we would not be available to cast our votes, the aggrieved couple said.

The aggrieved couple has lodged a complaint against the local electoral officer with the Election Commission of India and sent a copy of the complaint to the Prime Minister as well.
