GUWAHATI, Dec 27 - A year after notifying the new country spirit policy, Assam Government is set to abolish the old mahaldari system of country spirit from January 1 next.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Excise department today.
Meanwhile, the Excise Commissioner has asked the Deputy Commissioners ( DCs) and Excise Superintendents in the districts to take stock of the excise goods and items as on December 31, 2017, and also prepare a list of inventory located inside the excise warehouses.
The officials have been directed to seal the warehouses after taking the stock and inventory list.
The district officials have also been directed to ensure that the unauthorised access is not allowed in the closed warehouses as it may encourage preparation of illicit liquor by using the existing spirit.
