Cotton University students take out torch rally against CAB

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - Hundreds of students of Cotton University today hit the streets demanding immediate scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Nearly, 1,500 students of the university took out a torchlight procession from the university campus at 5 this evening.

Students of other city colleges also joined the march to register their protest against the contentious Bill.

The march culminated in the university campus after covering a distance of around 5 km.

The protesting students held placards and shouted slogans such as �withdraw CAB immediately�, �we will not accept CAB�, �BJP go back�, among others.

Hirakjyoti Bora, a student of Cotton University, said: �We have gathered here to apprise the government that the people of Assam or the students of the State would not accept the Bill in any form. We will continue our protest till the Bill is scrapped. The Bill will not solve the problems of Assam.�

�This is the time to show the government the power of students in a democracy. For this, we have to intensify our protest till the bill is scrapped. The students of our university have been vehemently opposing the Bill all along,� he said.
