Cops under scanner in 2012 �flesh trade� case

SILCHAR, Nov 18 - Two police officials are under scanner as they have been identified by three girls who were rescued from a Silchar brothel back in 2012. The girls hail from Meghalaya.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, (HQ) Sudhangshu Ranjan Das, said that the case filed by one of the victims in 2012 has been reopened for fresh investigation on the orders of the National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi, and that during the procedural Test Investigation Parade (TIP) at the PI Court in front of the Magistrate, the girls pointed fingers at Mintu Seal, the then constable at Silchar Sadar police station and a former Home Guard personnel Tapan Nath for their alleged involvement in woman trafficking. Mintu Seal is presently posted in Karimganj.

Das further said that on June 19, 2012, the three girls from Meghalaya were recovered from a brothel in Silchar. Members of Women�s Organisation, Civil Society extended assistance to the Meghalaya Police and Silchar Police in the victims� rescue.
