TURA, July 15 � A senior Meghalaya police official, Gilbirth Marak was today sent to a 14 day judicial custody on charges of molestation of a colleague. Marak is an assistant commandant of 2nd Meghalaya Police Battalion and has been posted at Goeragre.
He was arrested on Sunday on the complaint filed by a woman recruit who alleged molestation. The place of incident is about 12 kms from Tura.
According to the FIR filed by the victim at the Tura Police Station, Marak had called her to his residence on Sunday evening and attempted to outrage her modesty.
The incident took place when a group of woman recruit constables under training in the battalion headquarters were engaged in menial work on Sunday morning when one of them was called by the assistant commandant to his official quarters.
The Commandant of 2nd MLP Battalion, Aditya Goenka said, �The new recruit came to report the matter to me and we suggested her to file an FIR to which she agreed. After the FIR was filed, Marak was arrested on the same day�. Departmental proceedings have been initiated against Marak, who has also been suspended. Marak, was in his late 50s and was due for retirement.
