Convention of Barpeta Satra branches from Oct 22

BARPETA, Sept 4 � A convention of all the sakha satra of the historic Barpeta Satra is going to be held from October 22 to 25 this year. The four-day convention to be held at the Barpeta Satra is aimed at wide ranging exchange of opinion between the delegates and disciples of almost hundred branches of the great satra spread across the State and nearby West Bengal.

A released issued by Aswini Kumar Das, secretary of the reception committee of the event stated that Sri Sri Mathuradas Burha Ata introduced the system of establishment of the branches of the satra with the greater and noble aim of spreading the ideology of the great Vaishnavite saints. This system is still prevalent at Barpeta Satra. But in course of time, a number of branches have lost their identity and communication has been snapped with many others due to one or the other reasons. In this context, exchange of opinion between the delegates of the branches and that of its root has been necessitated for the purpose of unity and integrity among them.

The four-day event will be inaugurated with the recital of dhemali by 100 Gayan-Bayan of Barpeta Satra and lighting of lamps. There will be four delegates session. These sessions will discuss problems of the sakha satra and ways and means to solve them. Ecclesiatical aspect in the Guru Dharma, rituals in the day to day prayers and action plan on the expansion of religion and Krishna culture. Besides there is a proposal to form a state level co-ordination committee to look into the preservation, protection and development of the sakha satras in the last session of the delegates meet.

A souvenir will be published on this occasion which will contain information of the Barpeta and its branch satras. An exhibition of the devotional materials will be held where all the materials used by the great saints available in the Barpeta Satra will be exhibited for the visitors. The reception committee has urged all the banches to send representatives in the four-day convention.
