Contributions of Natya Samrat Prafulla Bora recalled

MANGALDAI, Nov 21 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha in association with its Mangaldai regional office and Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha centrally observed the 14th �Smriti Divas� of Natya Samrat late Prafulla Bora.

In this connection, a public meeting was organized here at the district Sahitya Sabha conference hall on Friday. The meeting, presided over by president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Kuladhar Saikia, witnessed Hemanta Kumar Baruah, Associate Professor of Loka Nayak Amiya Kumar Das College, Dhekiajuli, as the appointed speaker, dwelt at length on the life and the creative works of late Bora. Similarly veteran playwright, actor and lyricist Hemanta Dutta explained how his works were influenced by dramas of Prafulla Bora and termed him as a all time real dramatist of Assam.

Several other speakers including former Vice President of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Idris Ali and Bankim Chandra Sharma of Tezpur Ban Theatre, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Addressing the public from the chair, President of the Sabha Dr Saikia said that we must keep Prafulla Bora alive among us because it is Prafulla Bora who created the new drama trend in mobile theatre replacing the earlier practice of translated plays from other languages. He stressed the need of inculcating the value of Prafulla Bora�s dramas by young amateur artistes to carry forward the flag of the theatre movement in this critical hour. He also spoke on different projects taken up by the premier literary body including mobile compatible digitalization, rediscovering story telling culture for children through All India Radio etc., to mobilise recognition for Assamese literature and culture across the globe.

The meeting which began with the lightning of the lamp before the portrait of late Bora by his eldest son Angshuman Bora was followed by smriti tarpan initiated by prominent dramatist Abdul Aziz. Earlier, Jadav Chandra Sharma, secretary general of Asam Sahitya Sabha explained its objectives while office bearer Pankaj Baruah offered the vote of thanks at the end.
