Contributions of Harendra Nath Sarma recalled

PATACHARKUCHI, Oct 28 - A lecture programme in memory of Harendra Nath Sarma, founder head teacher and Principal of Patacharkuchi Vidyapith HS School, a scholar as well as a social reformer was held at the Patacharkuchi Vidyapith HS School recently, under the aegis of the Harendra Nath Sarma Memorial Trust.

Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice-Chancellor of KKHSOU, was the appointed speaker on the topic, �Byakti aru samaj: parial kendrikatar para samaj chetanaloi�. He said that Harendra Nath Sarma had immense contribution towards the society, especially, in the field of education. He said if Sarma had been born in West Bengal, he would have gone places. He was a man possessing high thinking for bringing about reformation in the society, was a good administrator, and a writer who showed the path of righteousness to the people of the locality. Dr Deka also urged the trust to collect his literature and books and preserve them so that the people of the new generation may not forget the role he played in inspiring the youths. He appealed for constitution of a State-level prize in his name for teachers. He further appealed to the teachers and attending guests to leave no stone unturned to give a true shape to the dream school of Harendra Nath Sarma and mould human resources.

The programme was presided over by Dr Rabin Dev Choudhury, president of the trust. Phanindra Kumar Dev Choudhury, a popular writer and editor of a vernacular daily explained the aims and objective of the lecture programme, Khanindra Nath Talukdar, i/c Principal of the school and member secretary delivered the welcome address. Dilip Kumar Roy, a member of the trust spoke on the life and works of Sarma and appealed to people to generously donate for the trust. The programme was also attended by Dr Balen Dev Choudhury, Principal, Pub Kamrup College, Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, newly-appointed Controller of Examinations APSC, Khagendra Nath Das, president of the school management committee etc.

Phanindra Kumar Dev Choudhury was felicitated with a citation and a gamosa on behalf of the Patacharkuchi Press Club. Earlier in the morning, the flag was hoisted by Dr Rabin Dev Choudhury and floral tributes were paid before the portrait of Harendra Nath Sarma by Jitendra Nath Sarma, advisor of the trust and Kumud Sarma, son of Harendra Nath Sarma. Mention may be made that Phanindra Kumar Dev Choudhury and his three brothers have donated one lakh rupees for the formation of the trust.
