GOALPARA, July 16 Dudhnoi police seized five packets of contraband, believed to be high-quality Manipuri ganja, which have a value of more than Rs 1.5 lakh, and took into custody four persons, Gaur Hari Mondal (47), Tarak Biswas (30), Chandan Bhowmick (22) and Sumen Dutta (23) all of them hailing from Nabadeep, Nadia, West Bengal from a passenger bus (AS-01-AC-9722) which was on its way from Guwahati to Dhubri on Friday at Dudhnoi. The drug was meant to be carried to West Bengal.

According to Gokul Chandra Baruah, officer-in-charge, Dudhnoi police station, the police was on high alert as there was prior information regarding transportation of arms and explosives in the district by passenger buses ahead of the Independence Day. After receiving specific information that some contraband was being transported by the bus to Dhubri from Guwahati, the police erected a check point near Dreamland Dhaba in the vicinity of the town to check passengers buses.

The police recovered the contraband hidden under seats from the bus named Chanma and apprehended all the four persons. Baruah revealed that the siezure was carried out in the presence of executive magistrate D Baishya, DSP (Headquarters) Lonkeswar Medhi and Circle Inspector BC Das. The apprehended men were later produced before the CJM court.

The arrested drugs dealers admitted they purchased the ganja from the Paltanbazar area for sale in West Bengal. According to SP Lois Aind, such siezures would discourage drug traffickers from using the route.
