Contest on national anthem performance held

MANGALDAI, Aug 12 - The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) , Darrang have been observing the �Quit India Day� with variety of programmes in different phases including competitions on co-curricular activities (CCA) like inter-house debate, folk group dance, group songs etc. In this connection for the first time in the history of JNV, Darrang, an inter-house national anthem performance competition was held in junior and senior categories on last Friday evening.

In the senior section, Udaigiri House was adjudged as the best group while Nilgiri Junior House was adjudged as the best performing team in the junior category by a jury of three-member judges comprising Rajesh Guru, Dipanjali Saharia and Marami Saikia.

Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by senior journalist Mayukh Goswami by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Speaking on occasion, he urged upon the students to win the hearts of their rival competitors rather than simply winning an award and thus become the real winner.

In his address Principal of JNV, Darrang explained why expression of patriotic feelings deep inside the body and mind is important while performing the National Anthem.

The inaugural function also featured distribution of commendation certificates to three post-graduate teachers of the Vidyalaya, namely KK Talukdar (PGT Economics), P Soren( PGT Geography) and Debika Dutta (PGT English) for academic excellence in the last CBSE final examination. Several other events including pace-setting for community welfare, awareness campaign for Swatchta Pakhwada, workshop on painting and sculpture on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, inter-house wall magazine competition have also been lined up for the celebration of the day that began from July 6 last.
