IMPHAL, April 8 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has been urged to look into the plight of the Manipuris residing in East Khasi Hills. His help has also been sought for resolving land records issue of Manipur Bhavan in the heart of Shillong.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh made the request during a meeting with Conrad Sangma at CMs Secretariat here on Saturday evening. Singh has also written two separate letters to Conrad in this regard, official sources said on Sunday.

It has been brought to my notice that there is a small settlement of Manipuris in Bhologanj in East Khasi Hills, said Singh. They settled there around 1973 and it has been found that the settlement consisted of about 200 houses 15-10 years back but currently comprising of 30-50 houses.

Apparently they have been excluded from the benefits extended by the Government of Meghalaya under various schemes. It is also reported that they have not been issued Aadhar card or AAY card.

In this regard, you are requested to kindly look into their plight and direct the concerned authorities to extend all possible appropriate assistance, he added.

Moreover, the Manipur CM also sought cooperation from his Meghalaya counterpart in resolving land record issues pertaining to Manipur Bhawan in Shillong.
