Congress to induct new members today

GUWAHATI, June 18 - Former Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Kamal Medhi and former president of the College Teachers� Association Naren Changmai, among others, are expected to join the Congress party tomorrow.

The induction will coincide with the birthday of Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Congress sources said Medhi, Changmai and a few others, who were active in various sectors, will formally join the party at a function to be held at Rajiv Bhawan here tomorrow.

Among others who are scheduled to join the Congress tomorrow are some former office bearers of the Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti and some leaders from other political parties in the BTAD region.

�The people of Assam have got disenchanted with the BJP government, both at the Centre and in the State. On the other hand, the Congress is re-emerging once more as the first choice of the people of the State. Medhi and others joining our party will strengthen our position in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls next year,� said a senior leader of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

APCC President Ripun Bora, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia, among others, will be present on the occasion.
