Congress sit-in against immigrant remark

By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Feb 7 Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee workers today staged a sit-in demonstration at BT Road here against the report of referring people in North East (NE) as immigrant in the BJPs vision document released in connection with the Delhi Assembly elections.

Such kind of act should not be committed by responsible persons, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). BJP should apologise to NE people for their horrible mistake, he added.

It should not be repeated as it creates a sense of alienation among the people of North East, Gaikhangam, who holds the Home portfolio, added.

Regarding the introduction of Inner Line Permit System Bill in the coming Assembly session, he said the government is planning to introduce the bill in the upcoming session.

The BJP had since clarified that the word immigrants which was mistakenly used in the vision document has been removed now.
