Congress forms Tinsukia civic body

TINSUKIA, April 5 � Dipti Das and Ratan Sil, both of Congress won the posts of the chairperson and vice-chairman respectively by 9 to 8 votes out of 15 members and two ex-officio members of the Tinsukia Municipal Board in the elections which were held on Saturday by secret ballot, after the oath-taking ceremony at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner office.

The BJP MP Rameswar Teli and Congress MLA, Rajendra Pd Singh participated as ex-officio members of the board. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the Deputy Commissioner, Puru Gupta. Bharati Dubey and Ranga Dulal Dey of the BJP contested for the posts of the chairperson and vice- chairman respectively. It may be mentioned that in the newly- elected board, eight out of the total 15 seats have been won by Congress and the rest seven by the BJP. Rameswar Teli and Rajendra Pd Singh also took the oath of secrecy as the ex-officio members of the board.

Both Teli and Singh have appealed to the members to dedicate their services for the betterment of the citizens of the commercial town and to make it one of the cleanest and developed towns of the State as Tinsukia town has been selected for development into a smart city by the Central Government.
