Cong used Indiras name in IAY to siphon money: Ranjit

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Nov 30 - BJP state president Ranjit Dass slammed the Congress for using the name of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and siphoning money in the guise of Indira Awas Yojna for providing homes to the poor people.

Addressing a rally in Udharbond constituency in Cachar district ahead of the Panchayat elections, Dass said unlike Congress which is busy with its murky politics of blankets and threads, BJP believes in the politics of development and the result is in front of everyone. The Indira Awas Yojna was a major ploy of pocketing money by the Congress from the beneficiaries which has demeaned the status of the former Prime Minister. This is why the BJP government decided to change the name of the scheme from IAY to PM Awas Yojna.

Claiming that BJP has fielded over 7,000 candidates from the minority belt in the Panchayat polls, Das said, I am confident, BJP will stamp its victory across the two valleys in the Panchayat polls. However, if my words fail, I shall not come here again. He urged the people to support and participate in eradicating corruption injected by the former government at the grassroots and strengthen the hands of the BJP in the panchayat elections.

Former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, senior BJP leader Phanindra Nath Sharma, district BJP president Kaushik Rai, State BJP spokesperson Dr Rajdeep Roy, national BJP leader Shipra Goon and others also spoke on the occasion.
