KOLONGA (West Karbi Anglong), Sept 11 - The Congress party kicked off its election campaign in Karbi Anglong on Thursday.
To mark the inauguration programme of Rangsina Sarpo and Dr Bhupen Hazarika open stage at Kolonga in west Karbi Anglong here, a rally was organised by the Karbi Anglong Congress. Though the open stage was to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, but due to some technical problems, the stage was inaugurated formally by Rokibul Hussain, Minister for P& RD, in the presence of Biren Sing Engti, MP, Avinash Pande, MP, Secretary AICC and incharge of Assam, HAD Minister, Kharsing Engti, Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAAC, Bidya Sing Engleng, MLA, Dr Mansing Rongpi, Baithalangso MLA, Klengdung Engti, MLA, Bokajan and EMs of KAAC.
Addressing thousands of Congress supporters who participated in the rally, the national Congress leader, Avinash Pande, sharply criticised the Narendra Modi-led Central Government. He said that the Congress always works for the common and the poor people. The people have been getting to see round the clock development in Assam along with other Congress-ruled States in the country, he said.
He urged the people not to believe in the BJP and fall for their false promises. He further said that false dreams have been shown to the people, only to gain public support in the upcoming Assembly elections. Besides, Pande criticised and charged the Chief Minister of Rajasthan of involvement in various corruption cases. He said that Prime Minister Modi is maintaining silence over the corruption in Rajasthan despite knowing everything.
In his speech, Rokibul Hussain, Minister for P& RD, claimed of solving different public issues. He said that in the Congress tenure, peace and progress have been restored. The Congress came to power committing itself to four public issues. These were improvement of education, restoration of law and order in the state, solution to the unemployment problem and regular payment to government employees. Accordingly, the people of Assam have been supporting the Congress for the last 15 years only because the commitments have been fulfilled.
It may be mentioned here that many people from different parts under west Karbi Anglong participated in the big Congress rally.
The rally was also addressed by Biren Sing Engti, Kharsing Engti, Tuliram Ronghang and Dr Mansing Rongpi.
