Cong slams Aizawl civic body for improper waste management

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Aug 24 - For more than a year, the residents of Aizawl have been segregating their household waste as per the instruction issued by the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC).

But according to the Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC), the effort of the residents goes in vain since the segregated waste subsequently gets mixed up on the dumping ground.

A team of MPYCC members, who visited the dumping ground at Tuirial today, found that the citys waste is not segregated on the dumping ground and accused the Mizo National Front-led AMC of failing miserably in proper waste management.

While the city residents have been obediently following the AMCs instruction regarding segregation of waste, the dumping ground lacks a proper waste management system, the MPYCC said in a release.

It is truly disheartening to see that the waste segregated by the residents getting mixed up on the dumping ground. What is the use of segregating the waste at the household level? it said.

The MPYCC demanded that the AMC should stop causing unnecessary trouble to the city dwellers by asking them to segregate the waste when the AMC itself is mixing it up on the dumping ground.
