Cong restored peace in State: Rahul

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, April 4 - All India Congress Committee vice president Rahul Gandhi today addressed an election rally at Gandhi Maidan at Abhayapuri town in support of Chandan Kumar Sarkar, a candidate of the party for the Abhayapuri South Assembly seat, after concluding rallies in Goalpara and Dhubri district for the second phase of polls.

Rahul, who was accompanied by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Anjan Dutta and former APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita, said only violence, killings, abduction were the order of the day in the State 15 years ago, but as the Congress formed the Government, peace returned to the State. And, not surprisingly, those who (BJP and its allies) were behind the unrest, have today come to the State to beg for votes from the people promising development and peace.

As the BJP came to power in Haryana, the Government incited clashes between Jats and non-Jats over the reservation issue. But under the rule of the Congress Government, the State had flourished. So, wherever they (BJP) go, they create tension, Rahul said.

Mocking at Prime Minister Narendra Modis promise to bring back black money, Rahul said currently any person can make his black money white with the help of Modi and Jaitley under their Fair and lovely scheme.

Stating the achievement of his party Government in the State, Rahul reminded the people that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had set up 15 engineering colleges, while the number of universities increased from 5 to 19. Gogoi also helped to increase the earning of the common man from 12,000 to 50,000, expanded roads from 6000 to 24000 km, built 7,000 houses for families below poverty line, and set up 3 medical colleges.

So, if his party government is returned to power, the poor and the farmers will be benefitted, Rahul said.
