Cong reduced to minority in Lai autonomous council

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, June 26 - The Congress rule in the Lai Autonomous District Council has come to an abrupt end with four members of the party and one Independent councillor switching allegiance and forming a new legislature party along with eight members of the Opposition Mizo National Front.

The Congress had formed the Government in the 25-member Lai Autonomous District Council by winning 15 seats in the last election.

The Chief Executive Member (CEM), T Zakunga, is now sure to lose the floor test as five members have merged with the MNF, and formed the United Legislature Party to stake claim to form a new Government.

The MNFs strength has now risen to 13, while the Congress is left with 11 members.
