GUWAHATI, June 25 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, ST Morcha on Monday came down heavily on the ruling Congress for allowing the Bangladeshis to occupy land everywhere in the State.

The Morcha alleged that the Bangladeshis have been encroaching on the tribal belts and the government was indifferent towards this alarming development.

Morcha president Haricharan Boro said that in 17 tribal belts and 30 blocks, the Bangladeshis have encroached on two-third of the land.

It is very unfortunate that the Congress is bothered only about vote and not about the threat to the indigenous people of the State from the Bangladeshis, said Boro, adding that by patronising the Bangladeshis, the Congress was trying to make its vote bank permanent.

Insisting that the tribal people be given patta as per the legal provisions of the country, the Morcha slammed the Government for evicting the indigenous people while allowing the Bangladeshis to settle on Government land.

On the other hand, the Morcha pointed out that the Government was not taking interest to improve the quality of education in the schools in the tribal areas. What is very pathetic is that the welfare schemes meant for the tribal people fail to reach them, said Boro mentioning that the condition of the roads and markets in the tribal dominated areas is very poor reflecting the apathetic attitude of the Government.

The Morcha also alleged that the Government has not set up the required hostels for the tribal students although it has been giving assurances in this regard. We demand of the Government to fulfill its assurances and provide hostel facilities to the tribal students, it said further demanding that the Government implement all the reservation and appointment rules for the tribal people.

Demanding immediate filling up of the backlog posts for the tribal people, the Morcha warned that it would take up protest programmes if the Government fails to address the grievances of the tribal people.
