GUWAHATI, Dec 29 - Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was marshalled out from the Assam Legislative Assembly today for disturbing the proceedings of the House on the second day of the Assemblys winter session.

The Mariani MLA raised the issue of Naga peoples encroachment in his constituency on the Assam-Nagaland border as soon as the House proceedings started. The Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami asked him to raise the matter after the Question Hour, but Kurmi insisted on speaking over the issue straight away.

The Mariani border area issue is sensitive... I told him to take up the matter later in the day as it was the time for Question Hour. The rules of the House cannot be broken, Goswami said.

Being a senior legislator, he should know that, he stated.

Though the Speaker initially suspended him for the day, later, at the request of Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, and after consulting Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, he was allowed inside the House after the Question Hour.
