Cong dismisses BJP allegations against Engti

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Dec 24 - As the Assembly polls are nearing, allegations and counter-allegations are flying thick and fast between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP in Karbi Anglong district. Since the past few weeks, serious allegations of siphoning funds off various development schemes and land-grabbing charges have been levelled by the BJP against Assam minister Kharsing Engti.

Meanwhile, at a press conference in Howraghat today, Congress leaders refuted the allegations and produced documents to negate the BJP charges. Defending the HAD Minister Engti, Amardeep Ronghang and Mukul Handique, chairman, Minority Board, KAAC, criticised the BJP for playing dirty politics in Karbi Anglong.

Addressing reporters, both the senior Congress leaders denied that funds were siphoned off the project to construct a bridge over the Jamuna river near Samaguri under the Howraghat LAC. They further clarified that Engti has no role in the construction works of the bridge. Further, a land-grabbing charge against Engti was also dismissed by Deuri Lekthe, chairman, Howraghat Town Committee.
