Cong candidate Lal Thanzara re-elected

AIZAWL, Nov 24 - Former Health Minister Lal Thanzara of the ruling Congress was today declared elected in the by-polls to the Assembly seat he vacated after resigning as a minister and a legislator inflicting a crushing defeat on his two opponents � K Vanlalvena of the Mizo National Front (MNF) and Lalduhoma of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The counting of votes for the by-election was held today at the Assembly Annexe building from 8 am.

Lal Thanzara swept the Aizawl North-III by-poll with a thumping majority defeating his nearest opponent K Vanlalvena by a margin 3,385 votes.

While the ruling Congress candidate Lal Thanzara polled 6,175 votes, Vanlalvena polled 2,790 votes. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Lalduhawma managed to get 1,887 votes. There were 64 NOTA votes.

Celebrating his victory at Congress Bhavan a few minutes after the declaration of bypoll results, Lal Thanzara thanked the almighty God and the people who helped and lent support to him. He said that God gave him sincere people who extended sympathy and compassion to him in spite of allegation of offences which was leveled on false and baseless grounds.
