Cong campaign gains momentum

By CORRESPONDENT

HOWRAGHAT, Oct 19 The Congress has intensified campaign for the KAAC polls in every MAC constituency. The party, at the same time, has also gone on a foundation stone-laying spree in the district.

In a public meeting held on Tuesday at Bheloghat in connection with the water supply project foundation stone laying ceremony, Congress leaders exhorted the general voters to be loyal supporters of the party.

Addressing the crowd, Bidya Sing Rongpi, local MAC and EM for the PWD department of KAAC, highlighted various developmental works undertaken by the Congress party. Rongpi pointed out that at one time the people of this area, as well as different parts of the hill district, did not see development worth the name and had to cross numerous hurdles on every walk of life during the ASDC-CPI(ML)s 14-year stint in power. Now, the people are getting adequate road communication, potable drinking water and electrification, he claimed and sought support from the public for the Congress in the coming elections.

Attending the ceremony as the chief guest, State HAD Minister Kharsing Engti said that the Congress is part of every needy section of the people and hence the Congress-led government never lagged behind in undertaking developmental works.

Speaking on the upcoming water supply project at Bheloghat, which will cover the greater Dokmoka area, Engti said that it would be a great development for the people of the fluoride-affected Tekelanjung area.

He exhorted the people to have confidence in the Congress and assured all-round development in the district.

Later, at the end of the meeting, Engti was asked several questions on the UPDS issue but the Minister averted a direct reply. It needs to be mentioned that the demand of an interim government made by UPDS is creating doubts in the mind of voters of Karbi Anglong as regards the fate of the elections. The UPDS peace accord is confusing Congress workers and leaders as well.
