JONAI, March 27 � No party other than Congress would form the next government in Assam. The present political wave is in favour of Congress party and the Congress-BPF alliance will form the next government with absolute majority. Development opportunities can be provided by the ruling party so the people should vote for the party to help it form a strong government.
This was stated by the Bodoland People�s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mahilary in an election rally at Jonai today. He claimed the Congress would bag 55-65 seats in the Assembly election, while his party BPF would secure 16-20 seats.
Addressing a mammoth election rally organized by Jonai Block Congress Committee at Simenchapori stadium today, Mahilary requested the people of Jonai irrespective of caste and creed, to cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidate.
�The people of Jonai have been facing a lot of problems including recurring flood and erosion and problems of basic amenities. It is only the Congress party that works for all-round development and to boost the economy of the rural poor and destitute. The citizens therefore should cast their valuable votes for the Congress,� said Mahilary. He requested the voters to vote for the Congress nominee Pradan Barua in the ensuing election.
Reiterating that the Congress has a clear policy on self-determination of the tribal communities, he urged the people to deal with Congress for �tribal autonomy�. The Misings are demanding Sixth Schedule status for the MAC, which can be granted by the Congress government, Mahilary opined.
The BPF chief was accompanied by his party vice-president Hemendranath Brahma and Rajya Sabha Member Biswajeet Daimary, who also addressed the rally. The trio arrived by a Deccan Aviation helicopter at Simenchapori stadium at 12.20 pm and addressed a gathering of about 8,000 people at the stadium field.
BPF vice-president Brahma in his address vowed to ensure development of Jonai by the Congress candidate Pradan Baruah if he is elected. He urged the voters to exercise their franchise in the right way.
�It is your moral responsibility to elect a fit and active leader in the ensuing election, who will represent your area for long five years. Vote is a bullet to shoot down a bad leader after an interval of five years. Since the Congress is again going to form the next State government, so the people should vote the Congress nominees,� Brahmma said.
The Rajya Sabha MP Biswajeet Daimary in his address urged the people to extend support to Congress for the sake of development. He said that there was evidence that we voted the AGP and BJP party to form governments in the State and at the Centre respectively, but they miserably failed to achieve any development.
The BPF bigwigs left Jonai after an hour for Gogamukh under Dhemaji LAC to woo the voters in favour of the Congress candidate.
