Cong approves Dolo, Dini for Arunachal by-polls

By CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR, Dec 2 - Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the candidature of Kameng Dolo and Modam Dini as the official candidates of the party to contest the bye-election to Pakke-Kessang (ST) and Likabali (ST) Assembly constituencies respectively in Arunachal Pradesh.

The bye-election to fill the vacancies will be held on December 21 next. Congress had won both the seats in the 2014 Assembly polls. The ruling BJP is yet to announce its nominees for the bye-poll. The bye-election to Pakke-Kessang seat in East Kameng district was necessitated after Gauhati High Court declared the election of former Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo from the constituency in the March 15, 2014 polls as void after an election petition was filed against him by BJP leader and former Minister Atum Welly.

The Pakke-Kessang bye-poll previously scheduled to be held on July 29 was cancelled by EC considering the adverse climatic conditions. On the other hand, the bye-poll to Likabali seat under newly created Lower Siang district was necessitated following the death of Health and Family Welfare Minister Jomde Kena on September 4 last.
