Concrete foundation of Airport�s terminal building launched

GUWAHATI, May 29 - Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra today formally commenced the concrete pile foundation work of over 2,000 pillars of the proposed new integrated terminal building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati.

Interacting with the media, Dr Mohapatra said the government has approved ample funds for development of airports in the Northeast and several projects are going on for expansion and renovation works in the region.

The new terminal building at LGBI Airport, which is expected to be completed by 2021, will have all the world-class facilities, especially a multi-level car parking area. �Considering geographical topography of the region, regional connectivity in NE is very crucial and the developmental programmes and projects going on here will benefit the people in future,� Dr Mohapatra said.

The new integrated terminal building will also comply with green building norms having GRIHA-4 ratings. The entire building will have a LED lighting system. The peak hour traffic carrying capacity of the new terminal building will be around 2,900 passengers having 77,500 square metre area for movement.

It is worth mentioning that in the financial year 2017-18, the Airport witnessed a footfall of 46,68,053 people with a total of 41,172 aircraft movements, thus becoming the 8th busiest airport in the country.

Welcoming the guests, DK Kamra, Regional Executive Director, AAI, Eastern Region, said AAI is committed to providing world-class facility without compromising on safety. Referring to the airport projects going on in NE, he said it is a big step for connecting small but beautiful states..
