Concluding function of diamond jubilee celebrations of Bajali College

PATACHARKUCHI, Aug 29 - Preparations are almost complete for the concluding function of diamond jubilee celebration of Bajali College, a premier higher educational institution of Assam, which is soon to become Bhattadev University. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will grace the occasion, informed college sources.

The function will be held with a three-day colourful programme on August 30, 31 and September 1. The programme will begin with the hoisting of the college flag of the college by Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta, Principal of the college while S Talukdar, president of the governing body as well as the president of the celebration committee of the college will begin the ceremonial flag hoisting programme. Sixty-two flags will be hoisted by the selected dignitaries. The floral tribute paying on the portrait of the founder principal of the college, Kameswar Das, will be performed by Dr Karuna Kanta Patgiri. Smriti tarpan will be performed by Pabindra Deka, MLA of Patacharkuchi LAC. A colourful cultural procession will also be taken out. Krishna Roy, producer of the Anbahan Theatre will kick off the procession formally. Prerna Sarma, SDO� Bajali will declare open the gate of exhibition. Dr Chandana Sarma will light lamp in the campus in the evening. Various cultural programmes will also be organised in the evening.

On August 31, the programme will begin with the plantation programme. Dr Debendra Nath Dutta, ex-vice-principal of the college will declare open the lecture programme in memory of Rajendra Nath Sarma, who rendered service as principal of the college for 28 years and Prof Deven Dutta, retired Vice-Principal of Cotton College will deliver a lecture on the topic �Globalisation and its overall social impact�. Former and current students and staff members will assemble in a get-together meeting, which will be hold as a mark of respect to the retired Vice- Principal of the college, Ananta Talukdar. Rabindra Nath Kalita, former HoD, Chemistry Department will declare it open. Meritorious students will be felicitated. The second day�s programme will also conclude with a cultural programme.

The open meeting on September 1 will be graced by the Chief Minister and the Education Minister as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively besides a host of other dignitaries. Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University will be the invited guest, Ranjit Kumar Dass, State president of BJP will also attend as an invited special guest. A souvenir will be released by Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta. The entire programme will again conclude with a cultural programme.
