Concern voiced over sale of adulterated food items

By CORRESPONDENT

GAURIPUR, June 26 - Unabated sale of adulterated food items, specially sweetmeat in the markets of greater Gauripur area has often caused health hazards, though no steps have been taken by the department concerned, as observed by the socially conscious section of citizens here.

It has been a regular practice of the shop owners to exhibit their food items in front of their shops without any cover. Obviously, a section of illiterate or semi-literate customers hailing from adjoining areas of the town and seen suffering from stomach trouble after consuming such food items. Several tea stalls too regularly sell contaminated rosogolla, peda, curd etc. even as proper checking or examination by the officials concerned is lacking.

As the surrounding area of Gauripur is severely affected by floods, there is every possibility of epidemics striking a lethal blow. Under the circumstances, the enlightened section of citizens have demanded proper action to control such sale of inferior quality food items, including fruits laced with poisonous carbide.
