Concern over worsening condition of roads

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Sept 22 - The dilapidated condition of a number of roads in Silchar has caused concern among the local people here.

The commuters who travel every day are irritated with the road condition. No one is looking at the worsening road condition and the Public Works Department (PWD) has not paid any heed to umpteen requests of the haggard public to repair the damaged roads, echoed a section of people in Rangirkhari area.

Disgusted with the road condition, members of AABEG, a local socio cultural organisation has stepped in to raise its voice. In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Manoj Das Talukdar, secretary of the organisation said that the road stretch from Silchar Medical College to Capital point, from Rangirkhari to Nagatilla, from India Club point in Tarapur to Ramnagar needs immediate attention as there are a number of potholes on the said roads giving the road users a terrible experience every day.

Moreover, the bad road condition is creating erratic traffic congestion due to which students and office goers cannot reach their destination on time. Many people have sustained injuries due to accidents on the dilapidated roads here. The festive season is approaching fast and we demand quick repair of the roads, Manoj said.
