BAIHATA CHARIALI, May 14 � Waterlogging on the roads of Baihata Chariali, mainly on National Highway-31 and 52 during the rainy season has become a regular feature. National Highway-31 and 52 meet here with the busy Baihata Chariali-Goreswar PWD road which has given a special identity to the place in regards of transportation, business and communication with the other States of the country but the condition of the roads have not improved till date.
Waterlogging on National Highway 52 and 31 has become perennial problem due to lace of scientific drainage system. The authorities concerned of the two National highways have not initiated any step to construct the drainage system to the solution of the waterlogging problem for which after a little downpour, artificial flood on the sides of the roads is witnessed which causes great miseries to the pedestrians and general people.
Though some businessmen with active cooperation of local people constructed roadside drains on either side of the roads but it has failed to reach the final position for the output of the clogged water. Now the drains are filled up with domestic and other garbage, plastic bottles, coconut shells, waste polythene and mud as a result of which the sides of the roads gets inundated all time during rainy season.
The drains along sides on the Rangiya road (NH 31) are also clogged. Due to improper garbage disposal system the businessmen and some people dispose their garbages in the drains. It is also one factor of water logging. The people of the locality said that no developmental works have been carried out in the area by the authorities concerned reportedly for the last a few years to reduce the problem of waterlogging on the roads.
On the other hand, a section of people here said that the selfish politicians and public representatives have no spare time to look at these problems but they appear only during the polls with escort to seek votes and with some new attractive assurance. During this time pedestrians and school and college goers have been facing a lot of troubles for the waterlogging problem on the roads as other vehicles plying on the roads splash muddy-water on them. Hence the people of the area have asked the authorities concerned to construct scientific drainage system on either sides of the National highways in this area.
