GUWAHATI, Sept 8 - State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that almost all the legislative constituencies in the State have schools with proxy teachers, which is a matter of concern.
Sarma who was replying to a call attention by Congress legislator Abdul Khaleque told the State Assembly that the proxy teachers are engaged by the regular teachers against payment of a certain amount of money.
�In some of the cases that we have so far detected, we have taken action against the government teachers. It is a practice prevalent in all the constituencies,� the minister said.
Meanwhile, the minister also urged the legislators to facilitate a safe environment for lady teachers posted in vulnerable areas, including the char areas. He referred to two of the recent instances where lady teachers were subjected to harassment.
On the issue of providing financial assistance to venture schools, the minister categorically stated that the Gauhati High Court itself has ordered against it and hence it was not worth a discussion.
