SILCHAR, Jan 6: In recent times, Silchar has been witness to a spurt in instances of drug abuse, suicides, accidents and alleged physical assaults.

The recent incident of a scooty being stolen from Shillongpatty in broad daylight is adding to the worries of the citizens.

Expressing concern over the rising instances of crimes, Congress MLA from Lakhipur Rajdip Goala said instances of drug consumption among youths are a serious issue in Lakhipur, especially in Jirighat being close to the Assam-Manipur border. I urge upon the district administration to look into the matter and the police should also increase vigil across the district.

On the other hand, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan reacted promptly and directed officials to take immediate steps in this regard.

Cachar SP Rakesh Roushan also assured that law-breakers and criminals will not be spared. Police is on the job round the clock and the cases would be dealt with priority.
