Concern over poor progress of MGNREGA

MANGALDAI, March 18 � The Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, MS Manivannan has expressed concern over the poor progress of MGNREGA schemes in the district.

He recently visited Block Development offices at Dalgaon, Sialmari and Besimari under Dalgaon LAC in the district to take stock of the progress of the ongoing MGNREGA schemes.

He expressed his resentment over the poor progress of works and directed the BDOs and other concerned staff to ensure quality of work and completion within the specified timeframe. He also issued warnings to the concerned officials and staff for putting up unnecessary hurdles in disbursing monthly salaries to the workers. The DC asked the concerned employees to expedite their allotted responsibilities and complete the pending works within a short time, an official release stated.

The Deputy Commissioner also visited the wholesale vegetable market at Besimari to take stock of the situation and stressed the need of developing the infrastructure of the market.

In response to a public allegation regarding encroachment on the market land during his visit, the Deputy Commissioner directed Ashraful Amin, Circle Officer of Dalgaon Revenue Circle, who was accompanying him, to take necessary measures to evict all the illegal encroachers from the market land and also directed him to prepare a masterplan for its development.

The Deputy Commissioner also expressed his willingness to set up a cold storage, the official statement added.
