GUWAHATI, Jan 4 The Assam Senior Citizens Association has expressed concern at the widespread indiscipline among the students in particular and the gross moral degradation among a large section of the youths which is evident in their addiction to drugs and also their proneness towards sexual violence.
The executive committee of the Association at its meeting held on Sunday in Guwahati under the presidentship of DN Chakravartty, called upon the Government of Assam to take early and planned steps for introduction of moral lessons in the high school level by devoting two periods together every month in which teachers, parents and local senior citizens should be involved to acquaint the students about the rich moral background of India and the urgency of keeping a disciplined life for attainment of success.
Member in charge of education of the Association Dr Dilip Borgohain while moving the resolution said that there are a large number of incidents where school students are found to be violent due to their addiction to drugs and alcohol. He stressed the need for introducing moral lessons in the school curriculum.
