Concern over Govt failure to hold polls

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 3 A convention of different Mising bodies convened by the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) today expressed grave concern over the failure of the State Government to hold the election to the Mising Autonomous Council even though it was formed way back in 1995.

The meeting noted that while the Government had been dithering over the holding of the polls under the plea of a pending High Court case, yet, after the court had settled all the matters in 2010, the Government still did not deem it fit to hold the polls, which was most unfortunate.

We believe that holding of the polls to the autonomous council is critical to securing the diverse interests of the Mising community. These include the issues of flood and erosion, preservation of the Misings identity, and the all-round development of every community living in the Council areas, it said.

The convention also voiced grave concern over the apathy of the Central Government to the worsening problem of flood and erosion.
