Concern over eviction drive

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, June 12 The Greater Baragaon Senior Citizens Samity has expressed concern over the Government action to evict the residents of the Baragaon hills on June 10, a press release said. A meeting of the Samity held at the Shankardev Sishu Niketan, Gakhirchak, Baragaon on Saturday observed that the Governments attempt to evict the poor residents was illegal in the light of the Chief Ministers public assurance on the Assembly floor in 2002 to settle the hill residents in a suitable manner, maintaining an eco-friendly environment.

The meeting urged the Government to resolve the matter by taking essential steps instead of evicting the poor residents of the hills. The meeting was presided over by senior citizen Naba Sapcota, the press release added.
