GUWAHATI, June 30 Expressing concern over the ongoing construction of a concrete bridge over the Bharalu river at Fatasil by a private party at a distance of some 50 yards east of the existing Fatasil concrete bridge, the Pachim Guwahati Nagarik Sajagata Mancha has urged the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority to intervene on the matter.
The locality has got nine bridges on the river, starting from the Bharalu police point up to the Arya Chowk police point. The presence of so many concrete bridges is already affecting the flow of the river. In view of the above, we urge you to take necessary action to prevent the construction of the new bridge, it said in a memorandum to the GMDA chairman, Capt Robin Bordoloi.
It said that the purpose of the new bridge connecting SC Bose Road with the south bank of the Bharalu was not clear since two concrete bridges were already in existence and in proper use on either side of the under-construction bridge.
