Completion of East-West corridor will be real tribute to Vajpayee

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Dec 24 - Ahead of the visit of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Silchar on Friday to unveil statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the Silchar-Saurashtra Mahasadak (East-West Corridor) Project, All India Mahila Congress president and former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev has sought a clear date for the completion of the project.

The real tribute to our former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and every other leader who demanded this project would be to declare a specific date about completion of the Mahasadak Project, as this a dream project of the people, Sushmita wrote to Gadkari.

Further, welcoming the Union Minister to Barak Valley, the Mahila Congress president drew his attention to the non-completion of the project and underlined the need for immediate action on the four-lane route of Balacherra to Harangajao section consisting of a total length of 31 kilometres which, in her words, is still incomplete and in dismal condition.

The BJP had made the condition of Mahasadak a big issue before the 2014 General Election that the Congress government lacked the political will to complete the project. Clearly the BJP government has also been unsuccessful since 2014 to complete this portion. The work was under NHAI and thereafter NHIDCL, yet another agency was involved. However till date there is no progress of work, the former MP alleged.
