Complaint filed against nine candidates

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Nov 30 - PRISM (Peoples Right to Identity and Status of Mizoram) today filed a complaint against nine candidates in the just-concluded Assembly elections for allegedly concealing their criminal records.

In a written complaint to the CEO, PRISM said while Dr BD Chakma, a BJP candidate from Tuichawng constituency, concealed his criminal case in his affidavit, the remaining candidates failed to publish the same in newspapers or TV channels.

While BD Chakma can be charged with a false affidavit case and contempt of court, the remaining candidates can be charged with contempt of court under Section 175 of the IPC, the complaint stated.

Two Chief Ministerial aspirants Lal Thanhawla, president of Mizoram Congress, and Zoramthanga, president of the Mizo National Front are among the nine candidates facing criminal cases.

Whereas it was mandatory for candidates with pending criminal cases, to publish their criminal antecedents in TV channels and newspapers at least three times during electioneering, the candidates did not do so, the PRISM alleged.
