Complaint filed against CM for remarks on EC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 9 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today flayed the Chief Minister for his recent comments against the Election Commission (EC) and its officers, stating that the remarks were derogatory and not based on facts.

BJP spokesperson Bijon Mahajan said, The Assam chapter of BJP has filed a complaint before the State Election Commission against the Chief Minister under Section 171(G) of the IPC and Section 2 of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971 (as amended 2005).

Mahajan also dared Gogoi to recommend a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the episodes of secret killings without being selective.

Mahajan said that the Chief Minister has failed to give justice to the victims of the secret killings in his tenure of 15 years, which speaks volumes about his failure on the law and order front.

BJP spokesperson Hiten Goswami also criticised Gogoi for repeatedly making politically insignificant remarks and charged him of giving shelter to illegal migrants. The State Minister of Revenue and Assam Accord, Bhumidhar Barman, had himself stated in the State Assembly that of the 38,186 declared foreigners, a majority of them had vanished from the State, Goswami added.
