Community nurseries to assist flood-hit farmers in Nagaon dist

NAGAON, July 3 - With a view to supply a ready stock of seedlings at the doorsteps to flood-hit farmers, the Nagaon district Agriculture under RKVY (RAFTAR) disaster management 2020-21 scheme has set up community nurseries at various spots under several ADO circles of the district. For these community nurseries, the district agriculture office engaged various Pothar Parichalona Samittees, agricultural firms, self help groups and other governmental seed beds in the entire scheme.

Sources at the district agriculture office said that under the Central government-sponsored flagship scheme, the department concerned targeted to cover around 150 hectares land in the district and would be distributed the rice seedlings among the flood-victim farmers just after the floods during the season.

Speaking to this correspondent here, the Agriculture SDO, Nagaon, Praveen Boruah said that this flagship scheme would definitely help the flood victim farmers of the district and under the project, the district agriculture had already distributed more than 960 quintals of Ranjit Sub-1 rice seeds among various PPS, SHGs and governmental seed beds under various ADO circles in the district to produce the seedlings in their respective nurseries.

He reiterated further that these community nurseries had been set up since June 24 and were being supervised especially by SDO, Nagaon, Senior ADO, Dilip Bora and the concerned ADOs under where these nurseries had been set up.

He said that soon after the flood ravage, the flood victims could contact the district office of the department concerned for free delivery of rice seedlings at their respective doorsteps.
