MANGALDAI, April 4 - The commissioning of EVMs and VVPAT machines for No. 8 Mangaldai HPC will begin from Friday next onwards after the second level of randomization was conducted on Sunday last. This was informed by Kalpana Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Darrang and in-charge of the election branch.

Commissioning of EVMs will be done from April 5 next at Mangaldai College and the machines will be kept there in the temporary strong rooms, she said.

Earlier, the second level of randomization of EVMs and VVPATs for allocation in all the ten Assembly segments under No. 8 Mangaldai HPC was carried out on Sunday here in the conference hall of Darrang Deputy Commissioners office, in presence of representatives of all the recognised political parties, contesting candidates and General Observer Capt JM Pathania.

The randomization was done through the EVM Management System following which all EVMs (comprising ballot unit and control unit) and VVPAT machines are to be allotted to the polling stations located in all the ten Assembly constituencies which form the Mangaldai Parliamentary Constituency.

In the Mangaldai election district, an additional quantity of Ballot Units, Control Units and VVPAT machines have been kept in reserve.

Before this second level of randomization, the first level of randomization was carried out at the District Election Officers level . The process is a part of the ECIs elaborate framework of transparent administration system, procedural checks and balances and security protocols that have been put in place to bar any possible misuse or procedural lapses in the use of EVMs/ VVPATs during the ensuing polls, said ADC Deka.
