Combing operation against ultras launched

JONAI, Dec 29 � Following the recent activities of the Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), police and security forces have launched a massive combing operation against the militants at every vulnerable area near Assam-Arunachal border.

A senior Assam police officials of the district expressing concern over the rebellion activities of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) and NDFB(S) said that some aimless youths are joining the rebel outfit just to make money.

Sources said that the NDFB (S), which is active in the districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and parts of Sonitpur, is trying to extend its base in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts. Sources said that a group of armed NDFB cadres have entered into Jonai sub-division of Dhemaji. The militants are using the inaccessible riverine areas and islands as their safe hideouts.

The police and Army have intensified operation against the militants at every vulnerable pocket. Police also arrested two hardcore NDFB (S) cadres from Simenchapori area.

�Our police force along with the Quick React Team (QRT) has been continuing operation at the vulnerable areas including Uluwoni, Mesaki chapori, Bogori chapori and adjoining riverine sites under Pachim Jonai area. We are mobilizing the people against the pessimistic acts of the militants and alerted the local villagers not to provide food and shelter to the insurgent activists�, said a senior police officer here.

Sources further said that the NDFB (S) is conducting massive recruitment drive in Bodo populated rural areas of the district in order to increase its military strength. However, after the launch of operation, most of the armed cadres are fleeing from the area, while some of them are hiding in dense jungles of bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
