GUWAHATI, Aug 12 - College heads in Kamrup metro district have been instructed to depute students for the screening of a short film on Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to held here tomorrow, a move that has raised many eyebrows.

The screening of the 32-minute film on Modi titled Chalo Jeete Hain is being organized by the Cultural Affairs department. It will be held at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium. The film is directed by Mangesh Hadawale. The screening will also be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The director of higher education has written to all heads of government and provincialized colleges of Kamrup metro district to deputy thirty students from each institution, including teachers, to attend the screening.

It is to inform you that a movie on the life and works of Honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will be screened on August 13 at 5 pmIt is expected that the student community will be mostly benefited from viewing this movie. As such, as instructed by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Higher Education department, you are hereby directed to deputy thirty students along with the teachers to witness the movie, the higher education director said in a letter to all college heads of the district.

A senior official in the Cultural Affairs department however said the show is just not for students. We have invited all to watch the movie, he said.

The All Assam Students Union said the move has exposed the immaturity of the government.

On one hand the government wants to ban democratic agitation and on the other they are forcing students to watch a movie on Modi. This is not a healthy sign for democracy. Moreover, Modi is yet to complete even one term and it is too early to analyse his works, said AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

Earlier, a comic book Bal Narendra had hit the markets months before 2014 LS elections.
