College teachers to face stiff challenges in the coming days: Dr Mridul Hazarika

DOOMDOOMA, Aug 11 - �College teachers of the State will face stiff challenges in the days to come. In the proposed new education policy, stress has been put on quality education and consequently, teachers also have to update themselves academically, so that they can provide quality education to the students. At the same time, teachers must also impart value education to the students�, observed Dr Mridul Hazarika, the Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, while delivering a lecture on the topic, �Society, Values and Challenges in the Higher Education�, held in synchronisation with the Freshmen Social of Doomdooma College on Saturday.

The Director of the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Gauhati University, Dr Jogen Chandra Kalita delivered a lecture on the topic �Teaching , Learning and Research in the 21st Century� on this occasion.

On the other hand , motivational speaker, television anchor and an advocate, Deepak Sharma delivered a motivational speech.

Earlier, the Principal of the college, Dr Prakash Jyoti Borthakur delivered the welcome address. The Freshers Social meeting was also attended by the president of the governing body of the college Ramesh Goswami, retired principal Dr Prafulla Medhi, the president of the students� union of the college, Jatin Tanti and others.

The students, who had performed well in the TDC final semester examination of Dibrugarh University from Doomdooma College in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams were felicitated in the meeting.

The renovated auditorium of the college �Kallol� was also inaugurated by the Vice -Chancellor of Gauhati University.

Earlier, the Principal Dr Borthakur hoisted the college flag while the secretary of the students� union of the college, Rajib Tanti initiated the smriti tarpan programme.
