Cold weather grips Manipur

IMPHAL, Dec 4 - Manipur is experiencing cold weather since the last few days after low temperature hit both hill and valley districts. The people in the hill districts particularly Senapati and Ukhrul have been facing cold wind since the last three days.

The minimum temperature recorded on Monday as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) at Imphal Airport was 6.2 degree Celsius while the maximum was 23.1 degree Celsius.

Senapati district headquarter, a hill town located about 60 km from Imphal, recorded a minimum temperature of 6.3 degree Celsius on Sunday, against 10 degree Celsius on November 24. The rest of the State recorded above 8 to 9 degree Celsius as minimum temperature, Environment department reports said.

In Imphal too, the minimum temperature dropped from 13.2 degree Celsius to 8.8 degree Celsius on November 28, as per IMD records.

The weather forecasts indicate the same weather conditions in the next few days till December 7 with fog in the morning and clear sky afterwards. However, cloudy weather with light rain is predicted from December 8 onwards.

Senapati and Imphal continue to reel from low temperatures since the past few days.

Residents in Imphal have started using charcoal and electric heaters to warm up their homes.

The number of visitors at the usually crowded night plaza or Imphal evenings has also fallen drastically on December 2 and 3. The State Government has announced a change in the timing of Imphal Evenings from 7-10 pm to 6-9 pm.
